* Gain hands-on experience with media outlets that serve immigrant communities.

* Learn about New York City’s large and diverse immigrant population.

* Help develop new tools for civic engagement by New School students.

Feet in 2 Worlds, a project of The Center for New York City Affairs at The New School, is accepting applications for journalism internships for the fall 2014 term.  Each intern will be placed with a media outlet that serves immigrant populations in New York City.  Interns will work with editors and reporters, assisting with reporting, publishing and distribution.  Interns will also have opportunities to work on their own stories for the Feet in 2 Worlds website, www.fi2w.org.

Interns will act as peer mentors to other New School students. They will bring their experiences in the field to the New School community in individual classes and at an event in the spring 2015 term where they will share best practices and lessons learned about civic engagement.

This is a paid internship awarded on a competitive basis.  Participants will receive a stipend from The New School.  Interns work 10 to 12 hours a week for the length of the fall 2014 term and participate in the planning and presentation of a public event in the spring term 2015.

Applicants should provide:

  • A cover letter describing your interest in journalism and New York City’s immigrant communities. Be sure to include the following information – languages that you speak, previous journalism experience, your experience with audio, video and multimedia on the web.
  • Your resume.
  • Three ideas for stories you would like to produce during the internship.
  • A letter of recommendation from a New School faculty member.

Applications and questions about the program should be sent to contact@feetin2worlds.org

The deadline for us to receive your application is July 25, 2014.

Fi2W is supported by the David and Katherine Moore Family Foundation and the Ralph E. Odgen Foundation.
