Nowy Dziennik/Polish Daily News reporter and Feet in 2 Worlds contributor Ewa Kern-Jedrychowska had a story this week on The New York Times’ City Room blog, about city comptroller-elect John Liu’s outreach to local ethnic media.
Ewa had covered Liu’s close relationship with the newspapers aimed at the city’s immigrant communities in a previous post for this blog, after Liu became New York’s first Asian-American citizen elected to citywide office.
On the Times’ blog, Ewa wrote:
“A politician shaking hands at a gathering of reporters? That is hardly news. But these are ethnic journalists, who find they get far less attention than their mainstream media competitors, often feeling like second-class citizens — except when Mr. Liu is involved. He has aggressively courted immigrant journalists ever since he was elected to the City Council in 2001.”
