Feet in 2 Worlds is looking for an assistant audio engineer to assemble episodes in ProTools for our upcoming narrative audio series, The Hustle

The assistant audio engineer will also receive training from Fi2W technical director Jocelyn Gonzales, including technical expectations and preparing audio sessions in a standardized format.

About Feet in 2 Worlds and The Hustle:

Feet in 2 Worlds (Fi2W) is an award-winning news outlet and media training program that tells the stories of today’s immigrants. Feet in 2 Worlds empowers immigrant journalists and documents the construction of a new American identity. Over the past two decades, we have trained and mentored hundreds of immigrant journalists, helping them reach audiences on public radio and online news sites and advancing their careers.

The Hustle is an upcoming narrative podcast series that explores how immigrants are navigating the changing economy and the changing nature of work. We are producing a mix of current-day stories and historical ones. Our episodes are narrative, sound-rich, and multi-voice.

Fi2W welcomes applicants of all backgrounds, and encourages those with immigrant backgrounds (immigrants and children of immigrants) to apply.

The ideal candidate will be someone who is:

  • Familiar with long-form narrative audio journalism; 
  • Comfortable working and editing multi-track audio using Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs);
  • Has proficiency with ProTools and their own subscription/license to the software;
  • Familiar with the editing software Descript;
  • A responsive communicator with the production team;
  • Detail-oriented about workflow and technical specifications.

Duties include:

  • Taking scripts, production notes, audio files, and audio sessions and assembling them into DAW sessions;
  • Working with and exporting sessions from different DAWs and importing them into a Pro Tools template;
  • Organizing and label tracks within the DAW sessions;
  • Cleaning up audio tape — smoothing out cuts, transitions, fades, etc;
  • Scoring episodes with music;
  • Preparing sessions to send to Fi2W technical director Jocelyn Gonzales for final engineering.

Employment Details and Compensation:

This is a part-time remote position, and can be done from anywhere in the U.S. 

Work will include both independent work time and regular meetings with production team members.

The assistant audio engineer will be paid $50 per hour, with variable hours ranging from 5-15 hours a week, with the busiest time expected in March-May. The position will start in February 2025, and is expected to run through May 2025.
