Disappointment in Mexico as Obama Says Immigration Reform Will Have to Wait

The summit of the “Three Amigos” (the presidents of the U.S., Mexico and Canada) in Guadalajara brought no good news for Mexicans on the immigration front. The headline in Monday’s Mexico City newspaper El Universal summed it up: “Neither immigration reform nor does Canada eliminate visas.” At a press conference at the summit President Obama said that Congressional action on immigration reform will have to wait until next year.

With a raging drug war south of the border, trade controversies and the U.S. Congress occupied with other matters, Mexican President Felipe Calderón apparently did not even intend to push the issue of immigration with his American counterpart, Barack Obama, in their private meeting on Sunday.

Also at the summit, Canada, which recently started requiring all Mexican visitors to obtain a visa, said it has no intention of going back on that decision, which has incensed Mexicans, already sensitive on the issue.

According to El Universal, Obama told Calderón that the White House has a full plate right now, which makes it impossible to deal with an immigration reform bill.

The Mexican ambassador to the U.S., Arturo Sarukhán, narrated the encounter, saying Obama told Calderón that “if the rest of the legislative agenda in the U.S., in Congress, moves in the right direction, space could open up between November and March. But evidently, right now, the immigration reform bill is not ready at this time to be introduced in Congress.”According to Sarukhán, Obama explained his priority is health care reform, followed by energy reform. That leaves immigration in third place on his list of major bills to be passed by Congress.

While the presidents met one-on-one on Sunday, the actual summit took place on Monday.

Immigration reform, it is expected, will be one of the topics absent from the Summit of North American Leaders,” said Guadalajara newspaper El Informador.

Left-leaning La Jornada lamented in an editorial that “the Obama administration has not made significant progress (on immigration reform) this year, and it is not likely that it will, unless it is done through renewed political and social pressure from the migrants themselves, in the U.S., and a firmer stance from the Mexican authorities.”

In light of the lack of progress on immigration, the Mexican Catholic church criticized the national government for not defending the rights of paisanos who live in the U.S.

Saying that Calderón should have pushed harder for reform in his meeting with Obama, the Archdiocese of Mexico regreted that the government does not carry out “strong actions” for the wellbeing of Mexicans in the U.S. The Mexican administration showed a “lax stance,” it added.

Aw boo hoo, Mexico will not be able to dump off the rest of its population into the US. They need to take their people back. Seems Canada is fed up the Mexicans also by making them get visa’s. Americans are sick of paying for millions of lawbreaking illegals and want our immigration laws enforced and illegals deported. Obama knows he will further infuriate Americans if he tries to puah for another amnesty. The people spoke before and defeated their plans and we will do it again. No more amnesty – EVER !!

It’s time mexico and obama learn there will be no amnesty!

Illegal aliens are destroying this Country.

I can’t say the ILLEGAL ALIENS are completely to blame for the shape of our economy, but they are a BIG part of the problem. The ILLEGAL ALIENS send BILLIONS upon BILLIONS out of this Country every year, money we will NEVER see again. Does this help our economy?

How about the BILLIONS the American taxpayers fork out for the ILLEGAL ALIEN BABIES, the schooling of them, the medical care and the list goes on, and on, and on.

How about the MILLIONS upon MILLIONS paid to jail ILLEGAL ALIENS for the crimes, then the cost to deport them. Does this help our economy?

Then you have these activist groups, the Catholic Church and the ACLU that want AMNESTY for these ILLEGAL ALIENS. It would be absolute suicide for this Country if AMNESTY were granted to the 20 million or so ILLEGAL ALIENS. We have more and more people out of work everyday and they want to add another 20 million to this Country? I say, “NO”!

If AMNESTY were ever granted to these 20 million ILLEGAL ALIENS, you can bet big money that 3 years from now, there would be ANOTHER 3-5 million ILLEGAL ALIENS demonstrating on our soil for AMNESTY.

An end MUST come to this illegal immigration. The perfect tool we have so far is E-Verify. It MUST be used by ALL businesses and Government Social Services. EVERY employee must be checked! If they are illegal, they are to be dismissed!

I believe it is time for all 50 States to pass a State law, like Arizona, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Missouri, South Carolina and a few others. It is time for these ILLEGAL ALIENS to go back to their home Country and get out of this Country. The problems they are causing will not go away until the ILLEGAL ALIENS are out of this Country. I think that is plain to see.

It’s time for ZERO TOLERENCE with these ILLEGAL ALIENS. It’s time for them to get back to their own country where they belong.

  4. The whole U.S.-Mexico issue is skewed by 160 years of de facto apartheid foisted on Mexico back in 1848 when the U.S. was nakedly white supremacist, and today even though white supremacy is kaput, a vocal minority of hardcore white supremacists are shouting the codeword “illegal alien” to stifle reasoning and debate. The answer to the problem isn’t another amnesty, because that’s only a temp fix. Instead, it’s time for Congress to officially invite the Mexican people to dissolve their corrupt govt. and unworkable failed country and join the U.S. as 10+ new states sans racism. Click the url to read my Megamerge Dissolution Solution proposal showing how the Obama admin. can do it.

Hi people, Ok here goes my thoughts and your probably not going to like them but last I checked this was a free country so read or don’t your choice. You are being ignorant in your way of thinking. How many of you are American Indian? If not your familys many years ago came here as immigrants!! People just like our Mexican neighbors “looking for a better life for themselves and their familys”. Theses people are not trying to take your job! Normally they take the jobs YOU THINK YOU ARE TOO GOOD FOR!!! They show determination and a willingness to work to make a better life where many of our citizens are happy to draw unemployment ot Welfare!! Do you want the jobs you see illegal immigrants doing? Be honest with yourself! Many say they are desrtorying our country, truthis, where would our country be without them? Face it our citizens have become fat and lazy… Are you going out in the fields?? Noo!! We have much to gain by inviting these people to become part of our Nation. Don’t just go against me on this out of iggnorance if you have questions or concerns feel free to contact me for proper education. I have taken the time to get to know them and to even let one special one become the love of my life.. tmaready@yahoo.com I welcome your questions.. Put Mexican in the subject line so I know it is not spam or i will delete you! Thanks Tim Maready Chinquapin NC
